Yanqi Lake,  is located at 10 kilometers to the north of Huairou District of Beijing. It takes its name from the flocks of wild geese that come to the lake in spring and autumn. In 1985, the Beijing Tourism Planning Department decided to develop it to be a tourist site. It is surrounded by mountains from three directions.  The lake is bordered by mountains and the Great Wall to the north and by the North China Plain to the south.  There are a variety of boating options on the lake, from larger cruise ships to pedalos.  More extreme sports such as parascending and bungee jumping are available.  There are cabins next to the lake and events year-round.
