Beijing-Dajue-Temple
Introduction

Beijing Dajue Temple which also named as Dajueshansi was built around year 1068 of Liao Dynasty. Anyway, the temple is not designed in a south facing way like the settings of majority temples but in an east facing form. This characteristic of the temple has fully visualized the culture of Khitan People of Liao Dynasty who respected the sun that raise from the east. Moreover, the temple used to be one of the eight most famous temples during Jin Dynasty and later, then, it was given name as Dajue Temple after renovation projects within Ming Dynasty. The design of Dajue Temple is very simple but full of solemnity. The back hill of the temple has become the very unique courtyard of the temple with small paths and flowing streams.
Dajue Temple was built strictly according to the natural topography of the hill. The overall structure of the temple can be divided into three sections in which the central part is the main structure of the temple, the southern part is general hall and the northern part is the rooms for monks. The building structures which are situated within the central north-south axis are Shanmen (Hill Gate), Beiting (Tablet Pavilion), Fangsheng Pond (Release Pond), Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Tianwang Dian (The Hall of Heavenly Guardians), Daxiong Baodian (Grand Bodhisattva Hall), Wuliangshoufo Dian and Dabei Altar.
There are 160 ancient trees within Dajue Temple, including ginkgo trees aged over 1000 years, magnolia aged 300 years, ancient sal trees, ancient pines and ancient cypresses. Moreover there are many other listed government protected ancient trees within this area as well. Dajue Temple has long famous for its magnolia. There are many visitors who come here especially during the blossom period of magnolia during spring season. While serving as an ancient temple, Dajue Temple is also playing its role as the artifacts for the historians to study the history of Liao Dynasty.
