Located about 25 kilometers from the county center, Bitahai Lake which well known as the Pearl of Plateau with water surface of 3538 meters is the lake at the highest altitude throughout Yunnan Province.
Bitahai means a serene sea in Tibetan language. Sitting around and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Bitaihai Lake will be extremely relaxing and at the same time keep you recharged all the time. When you see from afar, the lake is just like a precious jade which was placed in between of the mountains. The crystal clear water reflects the picturesque surrounding as well as the sunshine creating golden rays on the lake. On the other hand, the sheep and cattle that dotted the grassland on both sides of the lake make everything perfect.
As the lake is free of any pollutants, it is blessed with rich resources of marine life. If you are flower lovers, please be reminded to visit Bitahai Lake in May especially during the blossom period of rhododendron. During this special period of time, the fallen petals of rhododendron will float on the lake and attract fish to swim around the petal. Then, a unique scene might occur now! The fish that ate the petal might be drunk and float on the lake. Thus the scene with drunken fish and rhododendron petals that float on the river become a wonderful scene of Bitahai Lake.
