Black Dragon Pool is a popular pond which located at the foot of Longquan Hill. In fact, it is one of the pools within Yuquan Park (Jade Spring Park) which was constructed in year 1737 within the reign of Emperor Qianlong, Qing Dynasty. The park consists of 760000 square meters of water surface in the shape of a crescent.
The quality of the water of the pool is very clean. Moreover, the temperature of the pool is surprisingly warm in the winter but cold in summer. Especially during cold winter, you may find the steam in white color covering almost whole surface of the pool. According to the old folks, drinking the water that flows out from the stream of Black Dragon Pool is good for health especially in curing stomach problem and bronchitis inflammation.
Once entering the park from the main entrance gate, you will find a small path which is made up from colorful stones. Walking along the path for about 100 meters further, a bridge with three waterfalls below will appear in front of you. While standing on the bridge, you can enjoy panoramic view of the snow mountain to the north of the bridge. Besides natural scenery, there is also a number of ancient architecture within the park; for example, the Deyuelou (Moon-Embracing Pavilion), Longshensi (Dragon God Temple), Wufenglou (Five Phoenix Tower), Yiwen Pavilion and Wukong Qiao (Five Arch Bridge). All these ancient architecture has dotted the whole area of the park and ensure a wonderful integration between human made artistic and natural creation.
