Located within the heart of Beijing Olympic Green, China National Convention Centre (CNCC) is situated right next to the Bird Nest (China National Stadium for the Olympics opening and closing ceremony), the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center) and National Indoor Stadium. CNCC complex consists of the Convention Center, CNCC Grand Hotel, InterContinental Hotel and two office buildings. The main building has eight floors and another two in the basement with a shopping mall inside.
Sitting in the center of the Olympic commercial circle between Beijing's fourth and fifth ring roads, CNCC boasts an enviable location. It is only 30 minutes drive to the airport and the subway station is connected with CNCC's basement which enables an express way for people to the city center, the airport, the Beijing Railway station, the Central Business District (CBD), China's Silicon Valley Zhongguancun, and many tourist attractions such as Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City or Summer Palace. Moreover, it takes only one hour from CNCC to the renowned Great Wall and Ming Tombs.
During the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the plenary hall on the fourth floor of CNCC was the site for fencing preliminaries and finals, Modern Pentathlon (fencing and shooting); while the exhibition space on the first floor is the International Broadcasting Center (IBC) and the Main Press Center (MPC). The Paralympics used the ballroom section as the site for Wheelchair Fencing and Boccie. After the Olympic Games, some renovations had been taken place here and officially opened in November 2009. Nowadays, CNCC is ready for congresses, international meetings, exhibitions and other various events, with the world-class services and unparalleled facilities provided.
CNCC is proud of its stunning architectural design. Its front appearance looks like traditional Chinese quoins. While illustrating Chinese rich history and culture, the site also incorporating Chinese tradition and modernity, while bridging them to the future. The 23,000 square meters exhibition hall with only three pillars can be easily divided into 4 self-contained acoustically independent sections at 5500 square meters each. As one of the most important Beijing Olympic venues, CNCC has established strict ecological standards and systematic guarantee systems. The design and construction of CNCC is an inspired good example and acclaimed for a series of "Green elements", such as the central vacuum system, Beijing's first central refuse collection system, partly natural air-conditioning as well as the uniquely designed roof to collect rainfall.
