Exquisitely perched 350 meters above the mountain and offering a grand view of Yangtse River and Jialing River, Eling Park which previously named as Yiyuan (Courteous Park) used to be a private residence for Li Yaoting, a rich businessman. The tranquil residence was built within the late Qing Dynasty within year 1909 to 1911.
The name of the park is in fact means Goose Neck Park as its narrow shape resembling a goose’s neck. Its strategic location as well as the picturesque scenery that found around the area, it has become an ideal destination for vacation and retreat. Throughout the history, many famous people have either stayed here or visited the residence. During the period of Anti-war, the former president of Guomintang, Chiang Kaishek had stayed here for about six months. Besides that, the British Ambassador Karer also stayed here for five years. Moreover, the Embassy of Australia was set within the residence as well. After the liberation of China, it had been the residence for Deng Xiaoping, Liu Bocheng, He Long and Li Da too. Later in March of 1958, under the effort of Deng Xiaoping, the residence was transferred to the governance of Chongqing Government and in the July of same year, the park was officially opened to public and renamed as Eling Park.
In 2008, the garden had been merged with the former Fotuguan Park and thus the total area of the park was increased to over 400 Mu. It is the best place to take a full glance of the river view. Nowadays, the park is basically divided into two sections, which are the Fotuguan Section and Eling Section. The serenity of the park as well as it richness of cultural relics has therefore attracting many visitors throughout the world.
