The delicate shape, splendid ornaments, graceful lines and bold colors make Qingdao's Guest House to be one of the best examples of European villas in China. The Guest House was originally the official residence of the German governor-general and named as the Governor's Official Residence, in year 1934. Later, it was formally renamed as "Guest House," and became an important venue for the VIPs of military affairs and politics.
The four-storey Guest House is consisted of 30 rooms of various sizes. The first floor was used as the living area of the servants of Guest House while the main hall, meeting hall and ballroom were all located on the second floor. While the third floor was the venue where the Governor worked and lived. The highest floor is filled with some extra bedrooms and multi-functional rooms. All the rooms were delicately designed with luxurious settings. The glittering jade stones are inlayed in the lights, wall lamps and fireplaces. All the rooms are furnished with Germany furniture as well as some Chinese Qing Dynasty furniture as well. Moreover, there are many calligraphies and paintings within the Guest House which were kept in their original place as before.
Throughout the years, the Guest House has experienced several times of owner changing. However, it is still deeply linked with many domestic and foreign political celebrities. Chairman Mao, Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh, Albanian leader Shehu, Australian Minister Hill and Cambodian Sihanouk are just some of the famous personnel who left their foot prints at the Guest House.
