Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) is so called because of its fascination landscapes and reverential temples. According to local annals, Dayu, a flood control hero in legend, led people to Maozhou for the purpose of controlling flood. A yellow dragon carrying his boat went to help him. Since then, the water flows to Minjiang River and flood seldom haunt the land. The Yellow Dragon then became immortalized in Heaven, leaving the appealing mountains and colorful waters for the enjoyment of future generations.
The underground karst cave, Huanglong cave is about 35kms (about 30 minutes) respectively from Zhangjiajie train station and airport. About 15km deep and covers 20 hectares, the cave contains different kinds of stalagmites and stalactites. There are one reservoir, two brooks, three waterfalls, four ponds, thirteen halls and ninety-six passages in the Huanglong Cave. The biggest hall has 12,000 square meters which can accomodate 10,000 people.
