Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area which covers an area of over 700 square kilometers, is made up of Huanglong and Muni Valley. Huanglong Scenic Area is consisted of Huanglong Valley, Danyun Gorge, Xuebaoding and etc while Erdao Lake and Zaga Waterfall is the major attractions of Muni Valley. The most popular scenic spot among all is the Huanglong Temple which therefore the whole area is named as Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area. The scenic area is famed with its snow mountain, gorges, virgin forest and colorful lakes.
In Huanglong Scenic Spot, you will be able to find the world’s largest travertine bank, the world’s largest highland travertine ponds and the world’s largest travertine waterfall. The large-scale open-air travertine accumulation landscape is the best attraction at Huanglong scenic area. The Huanglong travertine has a total length of 3.6 kiloneters which looks like a golden huge dragon that wheeling in the snow-capped mountains and valley. It is mainly composed of four types of landscape, including travertine banks, travertine ponds, travertine waterfalls and travertine cave.
The main body of Huanglong Scenic Area starts from the south Huanglong Ancient Temple and ends at Xishen Cave Waterfall in the north, with a total length of about 2.5 kilometers and width between 30 to 70 meters. The open aired travertine has highlighted with different colors like pale yellow, dark yellow, dark green, brown white and gray. The water that flows in between appears golden ripples which dazzling in the sun. About 1.34 kilometers away from the tourist plaza lay the Golden Sand on Earth which serves as one of the most important spot for the color of gold.
