Lake Dian is the largest lake in Yunnan and the sixth largest freshwater lake in China with an area of 297.9 square kilometers. The height above sea level is 1,886 meters. Lake Dian is located in the southwest part of Kunming City.
Unfortunately, the lake has been polluted seriously. The area decreases from 500 square kilometers in 19th century to 338 square kilometers in 1938. Till now, the area only has 290 square kilometers or so.
This lake is still famous for its charming scenery. Numerous visitors came here every year. There are many leisure boats available for touring the lake. The lake is a pleasant destination for those who would like to get away from the bustle of the city.
