Mengjiangnv Temple perched highly above Fenghuangshan (Phoenix Mountain) about 6.5 kilometers to the east of Shanhaiguan Great Wall. The temple is made up from two sections, which are the Zhennvci (Virgin Temple) and Mengjiangnv Garden.
According to the historical record, Zhennvci (Virgin Temple) was primarily built before Song Dynasty and large renovation project had been taken place within the reign of Emperor Wanli of Ming Dynasty in year 1594. It is one of the key conservation units of Hebei Province. There are 108 staircases right in front of the temple which leads you to Shanmen, the entrance gate of the temple. The scenic spots within the temple are included two main halls, bell tower, Zhenyi Pavilion, Wangfu Stone (Looking for Husband Stone) and etc. An ancient Chinese style garden can be found at the back of the temple which allows you to take a short stroll while enjoying the touching story of Mengjiangnv.
In fact, Mengjiangnv Temple is the local folk’s culture which extended from the culture of Great Wall. A sculpture of Mengjiangnv can be found right in front of the temple. Moreover, there are two groups of unique poems written at the temple as well. Later in year 1992, the government of Shanhaiguan District had built a huge cultural garden according to the legend of Mengjiangnv whom had caused the Great Wall to collapse by her cries. After visiting some attractions within the garden, perhaps you will be deeply touched by this legend as well.
