Mt. Wutaishan is the first of the four most sacred Buddhism Mountains in China. Located at the northeastern side of Wutai County, Shanxi Province. Mt. Wutaishan is consisted of a series of high mountains and several peaks. In between, there are five peaks which look as if surrounding each other and their peaks are flat and wide. Therefore, these five peaks are named as Mt. Wutai (Five Platform Mountain).
The Eastern Peak with altitude of 2795 meters above sea level is the best view point for sunrise. Therefore, it was named as Wanghai Peak (Facing Sea Peak) whereas the Western Peak with altitude of 2773 meters was named as Yue Peak (Moon Peak) and the Southern Peak which rich of greenery was named as Jinxiu Peak. The Northern Peak which named as Dou Peak is the highest peak among these five peaks while the Central Peak with 2894 meters height is located at the center part of Wutai Mountain. Besides that, snow can be found throughout the years at the shaded valley of Wutai Mountain especially at the Northern Peak. Sometimes, you will still be able to see snow falling even though during summer. For this reason, Mt. Wutai is well known for its coolness and is definitely an ideal place for summer escape.
