Nanjing Confucius Temple is a temple which specially built for consecrating and worshipping Confucius, the great thinker and educator of ancient China. The temple was primarily built in Song Dynasty (A.D.1034) and expanded in East Jin Dynasty. The architecture of the temple had gone through several times of destruction and reconstruction throughout history. It was once rebuilt within Qing Dynasty in year 1869 but again it was serious fired and destroyed by the Japanese aggressor troops in year 1937.
As a project of appreciating ancient architecture as well as the commemorate of the great contribution of Confucius, the Chinese Government had appropriated funds to rebuild and fix the Confucius Temple in year 1984 as a part of Shiliqinhuai (Ten Mile Qin Huai), a huge project of scenic area in Nanjing. Nowadays, it has re-expressed its splendid civilization to the world and has been regarded as one of the most unique scenery of Nanjing. In year 1991, the Confucius Temple was elected as the "Forty Best Scenery Spots".
