The Presidential Palace in Nanjing used to be the venue for the Office of the President of the Republic of China before the republic relocated to Taiwan in 1949. Located at 292 Changjiang Road in the Xuanwu District of Nanjing, it is currently the address for the China Modern History Museum.
After the liberation of Nanjing on April 23, 1949, the Presidential Palace had turned to be the offices for many ministry affairs throughout the years. In the late of last century, the project of making it a museum had begun and finally in year 2003, the renovation project was done and the museum is officially opened to public in the March of the same year.
The whole area of the museum has covered 90000 square meters with many well preserved architecture of last centuries remain inside. Besides typical Chinese palatial style architecture, there are also some sections with the design of the style of Chinese garden. On the other hand, western style architecture as well as the building style during the period before liberation of China can be found as well. The richness of the various types of architecture have enabled the museum to be listed as one of the national key conservation units in year 1982 and later in year 2004, it was graded as 4A national scenic spot as well.
