About 72km from Guiyang City, the ancient town Tianlong Tunpu is located in Pingba County, west of Guizhou Province. The location of valley is between Tiantai Mountain and Longyan Mountain. Because of the key position to enter Yunnan, an important dak called “Fanlong Dak” was built here in Yuan Dynasty.
In early Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered the troops to get together in Tianlong Tunpu. The soldiers came from Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and made up of members of Han ethnic group. The soldiers turned the neighborhoods into farmland, grew crops, and constructed villages of stone houses for their own need and use. At the beginning of this century, local literators changed the name into “Tianlong Tunpu”.
At present, over 5000 people in 1,250 households, descendents of the imperial Ming Dynasty troops continue to live in this village. Their traditional customs and way of life in the Ming Dynasty are handed down and preserved well.
