Wangjiang Tower Park of Chengdu is located at the southern bank of Jinjiang River. The park is well known for its strategic location in which overlooking the ancient architecture along the river, the Memorial Hall of Xue Tao – the first woman poet of Tang Dynasty as well as the unique bamboo forest around the park. The park has covered an area of 188 Mu in which 39 Mu is currently listed as one of the National Key Conservation Units throughout China while the rest area is open to public.
Chongli Tower which normally named as Wangjiang Tower by the locals is the main architecture within the park. Chongli Tower with 27.9 meters high is made solely by wood. Since it is situated by the river, so most of the locals have named it as Wangjianglou which literally means “a tower that overlooking the river”. Designed in four-storey, the two upper floors are in octagonal shape while the lower two are square in shape. All eaves of the architecture are decorated exquisitely with delicate sculptures.
Besides that, unique architecture like Yinshilou (Poem Chanting Tower), Wuyunxianguan (Five Fairy Clouds Hall), Quanxiangxie (Fragrance of Stream Pavilion) and etc are very typical Chinese ancient architecture and worth for a visit. Besides all these buildings, bamboo would be another highlight within the park. As Xue Tao, the poet loved bamboo; over 150 kinds of different bamboos from many places were grown here in her honor. Thus, this has later result in the Bamboo Garden of Wangjiang Tower Park to become the finest one of its kind throughout Chengdu. As a result, the park is sometimes known as Bamboo Park as well.
