Xidi and Hongcun Ancient Villages which located at Yixian County are both listed as the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in year 2000. These two ancient villages are having the most significant local residences of Southern Anhui Province.
Xidi Village is estimated to be constructed during the northern Song Dynasty (960 to 1127) which was about 900 years ago. There are a total of 124 ancient residences and three ancestral halls within this village. Thus, it is famed as the Local Residence Museum of Ming and Qing Dynasty. Besides that, carving art is popular among the residents as well. You may find various types of carving styles on stones, bricks and wood every here and there.
Hongcun Village is paradise which famed as a village in the breathtaking Chinese paintings. Generally, the village will be surrounded by clouds and mists as it is located at a high altitude. There are 137 residences of Ming and Qing Dynasty can be found here. All these residences that built with pink walls and black tiles are arranged accordingly along the street.
