Located over the Yangtze River at the northwestern side of Nanjing, Yangtze River Bridge is the first highway-cum-railway bridge designed and constructed solely within China that connecting Hanyang, Hankou and Wuchang which previously separated by the natural obstacle throughout the history of China. Moreover, the completion of the Yangtze River Bridge with a total length of 1670 meters in year 1957 also signifies that the north and the south China are now connected with each other.
The upper level of the bridge as the driveway for cars can allow four vehicles to run parallel. Besides that, there is pedestrian way at two meters width on both sides of the bridge as well. On the other hand, the railway at the bottom level of the bridge has two railways which allow two trains to pass through the bridge from opposite directions. Besides being a gigantic masterpiece of the Chinese bridge construction, it is also the greatest bridge throughout China.
