Zhangfang Ancient Battle Road is one of the Heritage Conservation Units of Beijing. It is located at Zhangfang Town of Fangshan District which is about 75 kilometers from Beijing downtown. According to the historical record, the ancient battle road was built within Song and Liao Dynasty. Anyway, the ancient battle road is still remained in perfect condition even until today. The ancient battle road was built along the south slope of Taihang Mountain and not far from Juma River in the south. The surrounding area of the road is blessed with picturesque scenery as well as many other historical sites not far from here. Thus, it is always an interesting destination for tourists from all over the world ever since before.
Zhangfang Ancient Battle Road is merely four meters underground. The whole tunnel was built with Chinese bricks under the construction methods which similar to the Song and Liao Dynasty. There are weapon rooms, army rooms, commanding room as well as living facilities. According to the historians, Zhangfang Ancient Battle Road is the only military used ancient tunnel that found throughout Beijing. The discovery of this ancient battle road has brought new hope to the research of ancient military, political affairs as well as ancient architecture. There are many tunnels that interconnected with each other and formed a huge underground network that links to four city gate as well as some ancient villages nearby.
