Located in Mentougou District, Baihua Mountain occupies an area of 17 square kilometers and is 100 kilometers from the downtown area of Beijing. As the third highest peak in Beijing municipality, the main peak of Baihua Mountain rises to a height of 2,218 meters above sea level.
There is a great deal of animal and plant life on the mountain, with one of the more curious aspects being the huge quantity of large ant hills (some over 3 meters!) and various plants only found at high altitudes. There is year round ice on the summit and visitors can help to place rocks on the cairn at the mountain peak.
