Covering an area of 1.87sqkm, Gulangyu Isle is a tourist island off the coast of Xiamen, Fujian province in southern China. There are many beautiful old mansions that were quite obvious collaborations between architects from different parts of the world.
With a small population of 10,000 or so, Gulangyu has over 200 pianos. It is well-known for its architecture and for hosting Chinese only piano museum, giving it the nickname of "Piano Island" or "The Town of Pianos" or "The Island of Music". Walking on the island, visitors can hear the melody of pianos everywhere. In Chinese, "gu lang" means "drum waves" and "yu" means "island".
Major Sightseeing Spots on the Islet includes Shuzhuang Garden, Piano Museum, Bright Moon Park, Gallery of International Architecture as well as Sunlight Rock.
