Located at the southern tip of Xiamen Island, Hulishan Fortress was built in 1891. It covers an area of 13,000 square meters. The military style of Ming and Qing Dynasties are preserved well. It is listed into "the complete collection of Guinness World Records of the year 2000".
Hulishan Fortress is surrounded by walls made of granite and impressive gates. It consists of the barracks, the secret tunnel, sentry platform, commanding tower, the ammunition depot, the trench, the castle, etc. The base of the fortress is made of the mixture of camphor tree sap, glutinous rice, liquid brown sugar, clay and sand. Hence, it is rather solid.
Huli Fortress played a key role in resisting foreign aggressors in ancient battles. Nowadays, it becomes a popular tourist destination.
