The Hulun Lake is one of the five largest freshwater lakes in all of China, covering approximately 2,339 km2. It is 93km long, maximum 41km wide. This lake is an unpolluted lake of pure water rarely found in the country, and a big sparkling pearl on Hulun Buir Prairie.
The Hulun Lake abounds in various fish such as carp, red fins, pike, and catfish and also rare white shrimp. It is the habitat for 241 bird species, including crane, gull, swan, wild goose, duck and lovebird, which amount to one fifth of the total bird species in China. As some of the species are rare, the lake is reputed as one of the few treasure houses of birds in the world.
