The Id Kah mosque has a history of more than 500 years. Covering an area of 16,800 square meters, it is located in center of Kashgar Xinjiang, western of China. As the largest mosque in China, it can accommodate up to 20,000 persons simultaneously. Every Friday, it houses nearly 10,000 worshippers.
The mosque, 140 meters from south to north and 120 meters from east to west, consists of the Prayer Hall, the Doctrine-Teaching Hall, the gate tower, a pond and some other auxiliary structures.
The gate of the mosque was made of yellow bricks with the joints of brickwork pointed with gypsum. On each side of the gate, there are 18-meter high round columns half of which were embedded in the wall. There is a tower on top of the columns. The imam, leader of the Islam would call loudly at dawn daily to wake up the Muslims and summon them to attend worship.
The Id Kah Mosque is not only the important site for religious activities, but also the famous tourist destination.
