Sits on a huge rock in the Nanming River in the southern part of Guiyang, Jiaxiu Pavilion is the symbol of Guiyang City and Guiyang culture as well. It is first built in the 26th year in the reign of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty(1598). Jiuxiu means the people in Guiyang are the finest and most talented under heaven.
There is a fairy story about the Jiaxiu Pavilion. Before it was built, an immortal called Zhangsanfeng once visited it and praised that "There will be many capable persons in future." After it was built, the prediction came true. Three persons from Guizhou won position of Chuangyuan-"No. 1" in the Imperial examinations.
It is a magnificent three-storied building 20-meter-high with three eaves and a pointed top, containing carved windows and red lattices and upturned eaves on all sides. In this pavilion, tourists can visit the rich collection of stone engravings, paintings, calligraphy works, and woodworks by ancient artists.
