Lingering Garden is located outside Changmen, northwest of Suzhou. It is a well-known Chinese classical garden. In 1997, the garden was recorded by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The garden was built in the 21th year of the reign of Wanli(1593 A.D.), Xu Taishi (1540 A.D.-1598 A.D.). It was named "East Garden" at that time. In the 59th year of the reign of Qianlong (1794 A.D.) the garden belonged to the Lius. It was expanded, repaired, and renamed "the Hanbi Villa”. The garden got another name "A Little Structure of Huabu" because of the location of Huabu Alley. The new owner gave it a new name "the Lingering Garden" which means "lingering between Heaven and Earth forever".
