Mount Taishan is located in the middle of Shandong province. Covering Tai'an city and Jinan cut with an area of 426 square kilometers and reaching 1,545 meters above sea level, it was ranked on the top of the five most important mountains and one of the top ten best civilized sceneries in China. In 1987, Mount Taishan was listed as a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site.
Mount Tai is the foremost of the "Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism". It is associated with sunrise, birth, and renewal. The temples on its slopes have been a destination for pilgrims for 3,000 years.
The thing Mt. Taishan attracted tourists mostly is that it is the only famous mountain which the emperor once worshiped in the history. Vast quantities of poetry and stone inscriptions were left by emperors, poets and scholars in different dynasties. Confucians and Taoists relate each other harmoniously on the mountain. And civilians worshiped the mountain with sincere esteem. In another word, Mt. Taishan has become the Chinese spirit in miniature.
