Peak Flying from Afar is 168-meter high. A legend handed down said 1,600 years ago, an Indian monk called Huili came here and visited it. He believed that this peak looked much like Lingjiu Peak in India. Hence said, “This is Indian Lingjiu Peak. Why is it here? ” Afterward he constructed a temple called Lingyin, and called the mountain in front of the temple as Peak Flying from Afar. Ancient famous poet once wrote poets for the Peak Flying from Afar.
The views on the peak are very curious, wonderful and interesting. It is said that there are in total 72 caves on the mountain, most of which have been buried. There is a statue of Kwun Yum (the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy) in the existing Longhong Cave. It’s Shexu Cave to the left of Longhong Cave. Through the crack, people can see a gleam of light. This is the famous Yixiantian.
There is also another kind of legend concerning the Peak Flying from Afar. Ji Gong (1130 - 1209), the legendary Buddhist master residing in the Lingyin Temple knows that a mountain will fly here the next noon. If so, the village and residences will be buried under it. He tells all people one by one at night. But no body believes what he said. The time is approaching. Suddenly he sees a marriage ceremony. After thinking a while, he goes forward and carries the bride to outside of the village. All villagers follow him and try to get the bride back. At the moment they catching up with Jigong, a sound like explosion occurred. The mountain covered the village. What Jigong has done is sunk in. Therefore, the mountain is called Peak Flying from Afar.
