Located on the west campus of Beijing University, the Sackler Museum of  Art and Archaeology was built in 1986 with the help of Arther M. Sackler, a noted American pharmacologist, philanthropist and collector of art treasures. The museum was opened on 27 May, 1993.  

The 4,000-square-meter museum is made up of a main building, east and west halls, a rear hall and a central yard. There are more than 10,000 art treasures in the museum, including items made of stone, pottery, bone, jade, bronze, porcelain, ancient coins, paintings, garments and musical instruments.
