Wuta Temple (Five-Pagoda Temple) is located in southeast of Hohhot. Its name derives from the five squares Dagobas on the pedestal of the pagoda. Built in Qing Dynasty, the temple is about 16-meter-high.
The pagoda is 16 meters high (about 51 feet) and it is composed of three parts: the base, the body and the top (five dagobas). The body of the temple is made of glazed bricks. The lower body was carved with diamond sutra scripture in three languages. The upper body was carved with thousands of gold-plated statues of Buddha.
This temple features both the pagoda upon pagoda and the astronomical map. Set into a decorative wall behind the pagoda is a stone tablet engraved with an astronomical map showing the twelve signs of the zodiac, the twelve signs of the Chinese horoscope and some two thousand stars.
