There are thousands of Beijing villages scattered in the suburbs and outskirts of Beijing, and among them is the well-developed and unique Han Cun He village. It is located 45 km /28 miles southwest of downtown Beijing.
History of Han Cun He village:
The history of Han Cun He can be traced back 1,100 years to the time of the Song dynasty (960-1127). Legend has it that there is a famous general named Han who had his tomb built here during the Liao dynasty (906-1125, the southern part of China belonged to Song, and the north was occupied by Liao during this period). In addition, there is a river running through this area and river is pronounced as He in Chinese, hence the name "Han Cun He". The village used to be one of the poorest parts of Beijing before the founding of the PRC. But after the Reform and Opening to the rest of the World in 1978, some small factories were established under the leadership of Mr Tianxiong. Those factories developed very rapid and have made great achievements in the past 20 years. Currently, there are about 3000 people living here, many are past residents of the downtown area, but were charmed by the quaint village and made it their home.
