Turpan

Located in the middle of Turpan Basin in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Turpan has a history of more than 2,000 years. The city has a population of 240,000. Industries include food processing, wine brewery, chemicals and salt making. Turpan is hot and dry. The climate is favourable for the growth of melons, grapes and other fruits, which are produced in abundance. Turpan is crowned with "the land of fruits" being known worldwide for its seedless grapes and melons. The Flaming Mountains nearby draw hundreds of thousands of visitors from home and abroad with their fairy-tale legends.
