It is definitely ok. Many tour spots offer audio-guides to the tourists. But you'd better bring a Beijing map with you in case of getting lost.

Note: It's hard to get a taxi in many tour spots, because the traffic rules do not allow them to stop around the famous tour attractions, especially the areas around the Tian'an Men Square & Forbidden City.
