Imperial CollegeImperial College (Guozijian)

The Imperial College is located just to the west of the Confucian Temple. It used to be the highest institution of learning in the Yuan ,Ming and Qing dynasties(1279-1911). Built in 1784, the Biyong Hall ( 辟雍殿 ) , the main structure in the Guozijian complex, was opened to the public in spring 1998 for the first time. The hall is the place where the emperors gave lectures on the classics. When an emperor was enthroned, he would first pay homage to the Confucian Temple, then go to Imperial College to give a short speech on Confucianism or other Chinese classics on traditional Chinese thought.)
