Shennong Stream
Shennong Stream is 60 kilometers long and it originates in the southern
slope of Shennongjia in the northwesten Hubei. Precipice between two
banks is lesser than five meters wide. Projecting rocks form moats of 80
to 90 degree, the difference of which being 300 to 800 meters high in
elevation. The stream has a flow capacity of 20 cubic meters per second.
The drop of the stream in Monkey Cave section is three meters high in
elevation. Shennong Stream flows into the Yangtze River in Xirangkou,
2000 meters form the mouth of Wu George in the west. In the distance of
20 kilometers from XiKou to Guanzi kou, a "Pea" boat with 2.5 tons
capacity can navigate for an average year. The mysterious lesser
Shennongjia Nature Reserve is in the upper reaches of the stream. When
you drift on the stream, when you drift on the stream, you will see a
unique scenery, reaching 20 kilometers, which incorporate the greater
Three Georges' magnificent, beautiful and precipitous characteristics.
There are Mianzu (Bamboo) George, Yingwu (Parrot) George and Nong chang
Grorge and the whole area is 57.5 square kilometers. Luxuriant
vegetations, fragrant flowers, sporting monkeys, appearing and
disappearing Mongolian gazelle and river deer, flying swallow and
swimming fishes form a beautiful picture of mountain forests. There are
over 60 limestone cave on both banks of the stream. There are over 30
rapids, shoals and bays, which are referred as "a mile stream with 3
bays, a bay with a shoal. Jade-green pools, grand waterfalls, hanging
coffins on the precipice, a plank roadway local customs make Shennong
Stream become a unique and charming interesting place.
