The Liyuan theater was jointly established by the Jianguo Hotel Qianmen and Beijing Opera theater. It can accommodate over 1,000 audience members for the well-known traditional Peking Opera programs. Audiences can enjoy the opera and other performances while tasting famous Chinese snacks and tea. Performances vary from the dramatic to the hilarious and can involve acrobatics, martial arts and even some slapstick comedy. If interested, patrons can also watch the artists' applying their thick facial make-up before the show. In addition, the theater has English subtitles and translation services for multiple languages which helps foreign audiences better understand the culture and art.
