Deyunshe Theatre is now the most well-known venue for Cross Talk art, a Chinese traditional performing art. Cross talk is a kind of comedy show that was developed in Beijing. Deyunshe Theatre was founded by Guodegang, one of the most famous cross talk artists and a member of the Deyunshe organization. Deyunshe Theatre is considered to be the main location where Cross Talk first gained it's popularity. In the 1990s, China was experiencing rapid economic development and people's values and tastes were changing, giving Cross Talk it's first chance to become a mainstream form of entertainment. The art originally was performed in tea houses and on the streets in the Xuanwu district. Twenty years later, Deyunshe Theatre was founded, creating a new venue for this art and intriguing audiences of all types.
