Named after the protagonist of a short story by Lu Xun, a famous Chiense author, Kong Yiji is a well known hideaway. Stashed behind a small bamboo forest, this is a great spot to induldge in some Jiangnan style cooking. Decorated in a traditional Chinese fashion with a scholarly twist, the venue gives off a relaxing environment. The menu is comprised of traditional dishes with a modern distinctive style. Recommended dishes are Jiaxing crispy duck and youtaio niurou (beef slices with fried dough). For the more adventurous diners try the drunken shrimp, served still squirming in a small bowl of wine. A regional specialty is the sweet yellow rice wine and should not be missed.
