Useful Travel Tips:

1.Electricity ¡¡¡¡ 2.Water ¡¡¡¡ 3.Money¡¡ 4.Street venders ¡¡¡¡ 5.Traffic¡¡  6.Manner of Dress
7.Taking photos¡¡¡¡8.Toilet paper ¡¡ 9.Tips to the guide & driver¡¡¡¡ 10.Luggage weight limit

1.Electricity:
the output of the electricity in China is 220V for all electric devices such as digital cameras, PDAs, IPOD¡¯s and Laptop computers. You should check the changing device; most recent devices are dual voltage (110 and 240). These should work fine. But in case of any damage to your electric device, it is best to bring an adaptor (converter) to fit the Chinese plugs.

2.Water:
the tap-water is not potable in China, therefore, only bottled should be used for consumption. Bottled water and mineral water are available in most convenience stores, and the quality of this water is guaranteed.
Note: you need not be concerned about using tap-water to brush your teeth, wash your face or take a bath. Most hotels (4 star and higher) provide 2 bottle of water to each room for free everyday.

3.Money:
money can be exchanged in many places in China. It is not necessary to have your money exchanged at the airport. The hotel would be a good choice for visitors to get Chinese RMB (also called Yuan). Don¡¯t worry about the exchange rate, it is regulated by the government. Therefore, it is the same rate everywhere in the country. 300USD would be enough for each couple during their stay in each city (assuming they are spending 3 or 4 days in each city). Since most shops will accept your credit cards (VISA, AMERICAN EXPRESS, MASTER CARD, DINNER CLUB, etc), it is not necessary to carry a lot of cash.
Chinese currency is called ¡°Yuan¡± or ¡°RMB¡±. 1USD is equivalent to 7.9Yuan(RMB), click here for a currency converter list from 1USD-600USD.

4.Street venders:
Street vendors can be very persistent and aggressive. The most effective method for dealing with them is to avoid eye contact or say ¡°bu yao,¡± which means ¡°I don¡¯t want it¡± and continue walking.

5.Traffic:
The easiest way to get around the city is to allow your travel agent to provide you with a driver. Driving laws & courtesies are very different than in Western countries. Pedestrians do not have the right of way anywhere, including crosswalks.

6.Manner of Dress:
Many of our customers ask us whether it is acceptable to wear shorts while taking tours. It is definitely acceptable. There are no restrictions regarding how people should dress in China. The exception is if you intend to visit Chairman Mao¡¯s Mao Mausoleum
.
7.Taking photos:
Do not take pictures of the soldiers on the street, especially on the Tian¡¯an men square! If you want to take pictures of strangers or street scenes with people, make sure to get their permission for the photo or do it without detection, especially in Hutong area.

8.Toilet paper:
toilet used to be a head-ach problem for foreign visitors in the past. People complained that Chinese toilets are dirty, smelly, and can not sit on. But nowadays, things are changed a lot, there're many star-rated(four star is the best) toilets were built in these famous tourist attractions. The new toilets are clean, smell good, many western facilities were installed, some of them even has a convenient store in. But, all these toilet do not offer the toilet paper to the customers, They have to bring the paper on their own.

9.Tips to the guide & driver:
In China, tips are expected by the guide, driver, bell-boy and waiter/waitress (some western restaurant only). How much should you tip them? It depends on how many people in your group! Here're some information for you to reference:

Tips to the guide & driver: If you travel alone or less than 5 people: $20-$10/p/d to your tour guide. $10-$5/p/d to the driver.
If you travel in a group between 5-10: $10-$5/p/d to your guide. $5/p/d to the driver.
If you travel in a group more than 10¡± $5/p/d to your guide. $3/p/d to the driver.

Tips to the bell-boy in the hotel: $1-$3 each time.
You don't have to tip though it's a custom in tourism. Or you may tip them more than this if they offer you the excellent service.

10.Luggage weight limit:
Luggage weight limit for each person is 20 kilos(44 pounds) when you take the domestic flights within China. Overweight luggage will be charged, the penalty is around US $1/pound. So, people had better put the heavy stuffs into the carry-on bags if they bring more than this, because of the weight limit for the carry-on bag is not very strict, they only care how big your carry on bag is, but not the weight.
